My husband has worked for Tesco  DC( distribution centre) for almost 20 years.( 1 month short) Offered severance pay of just over 38 thousand.  If he refuses to take it they can either force him into working inside a store which he could not cope with or be a driver. He does not drive.

As he has has bad arthritis and despite having a GPs letter asking them to modify his work, they want him out. Disgusting

Yes, tesco are pushing out older colleagues. I don't think it's an age thing though. I too have been offered a severance, as have all of my colleagues on an old contract, some of them are in there 30s'. The company seems to have forgotten the 10s' of billions that they have made on the backs of us down the years, including the countless hoards they made during the pandemic. Now we're surplus to requirements. Despicable!!😡

I worked at an express store for 15 yrs, 13 yrs as shift leader, when my last manager came she wanted her ideal team of staff, which a few of us didn't fit into as we we're all over 40 and had plenty of experience, I hit menopause and mental health issues with it, my manager was not supportive or interested, I never took time off and just put up with everything before she finally pushed me over the edge and I finally snapped, I threw my keys in the office and walked, came very close to suicide that night, but a call from my grandson stopped me. As a company they don't really care along as the profits keep coming in, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone as angood employer

Tesco’s is a terrible employer to work for, I was employed with them for 27 years and they don’t care about there staff? Management are a bunch of bullies

I have exprienced this for myself at Tesco. They prefer young staff that can’t teach them the bad habits and coheres them into working against their will - on holidays bank holidays Christmas etc.

I don't think they're pushing him out but they must have another position in the warehouse he can do without having to drive or move to a store. Maybe if he's a union member he can contact his USDAW rep.

The thing is they know they can replace your husband just like that and get away with it . I worked for Tescos many years back and the other staff were lovely but any supervisors or management were looking down at you like dirt

They have a way in which to manage people with gp fit notes and have a duty to do it. If he is not then he needs to contact his group personnel or the union to address why he is not being offered support

No I think they are trying to adapt in this ever changing environment of uncertainty and if a person is physically not capable of doing the job that needs to be done and alternatives have been offered you can’t just re-write a job to suit all needs you can make adaptions but have to be careful not to just create a job because this then dilutes the needs of the business - at the end of the day businesses need to look after there employees this doesn’t mean creating jobs that don’t exist it means supporting them into jobs within the company that they are capable of doing.
