we offer a valuable service for seeing patients in their own homes, reducing the need for hospital admissions for the first 3000 miles in our own vehicles we get paid 54p a mile often doing a good 200+ miles a week once we hit 3000 the allowance is halved but we are still expected to do the same job and same mileage. With the cost of fuel, electric, wear & tear replacement tyres due to pot holes and diabolical road conditions the reduced allowance doesn’t even cover fuel so we are funding the costs out of our own pockets and expected to do our jobs, once income Tax is increased we may aswell not work. 

Stop reducing mileage allowance for community nurses

For community workers it's got to the stage that we are literally paying to work. The mileage renumeration is not fit for purpose.

Without this service so many more patients would end up in hospital, they are so committed in their role so definitely don't deserve to have their fuel allowance reduced, more and more community nurses will leave ti work elsewhere if this happens

The increase in salary was less than inflation already, we already pay for parking. Without community nursing many bed bound people would suffer.

We are a community nursing service too, and pay 56p a mile for first 4500 miles, then it drops. We have done a piece of work whereby we looked at paying higher amount for mileage to staff/ changing the policy, but this impacted the tax codes and the tax the staff pay as if you pay over 45p a mile it is classed as a 'perk' and taxable. In the end it wasnt worth it. Unless the government put the 45p up, it isnt worth having more mileage, and I really dont think they will lose out on tax income they make from this! Instead we went to geographical working to reduce the miles the staff travel, and as a result staff travel less miles. I think the QNI or Kings fund were offering financial support for travel expenses at one point?

I work for the NHS in a community role. Planning and allocation of calls has now been taken over by AI and some days our workers can be travelling over 60 miles in 1 shift. This soon adds up and once 3500 miles are covered it’s dropped to 20p a mile. However the miles stay the same and it is then costing the support workers to actually go to work. It’s so unfair.
