For the tax year 2024/25, the government have yet again frozen the annual income threshold at £27,295. This is for anyone who attended university between September 2012 and July 2023. The rate has been frozen since the 2021/22 tax year.<br /><br />The minimum wage in that time has increased from £17,374.50 (FT) in 2021, to £22,308(FT) in 2024. This means technically, anyone on this plan of university loan, will be paying more back as a tax, due to increasing inflation over the last few years. This freeze, almost wipes out any cut to the national insurance rates, which the government seem to be very proud of. Similarly to the freeze in income tax, more people will be hitting the bracket to pay the loan back. - meaning less disposable income, adding to the continued cost of living crisis. 

Raise the income threshold for plan payment plan 2 university tuition fee loans!

Scrap tuition loans altogether. Why should young people have to pay for the privilege of earning wealth for the country, scandalous. People are making money out of this.

This would affect my sons who worked hard on their studies in university. My eldest especially who finished his course and is working. My other son is currently studying at university and it is unfair they should be paying more tax. Isn’t gaining qualifications supposed to help people to become financially secure and comfortable in their futures by getting highly skilled jobs??? This defeats the whole purpose of having skills if paying out more students loans while facing other everyday expenses during their lives!!!!

University education should be free! Education is a human right for everyone not just the rich. I know some exceptionally bright working class youngsters who are terrified of the debt and have declined going to University.

I was lucky to have ended my undergraduate university career just before the first, small, loans were implemented. The loan structure is now a sickening harvesting of the wealth of newly, and not so recent, graduates. Highly educated, but poor, members of society are less likely to complain as UK life becomes ever more gruelling, as it, most likely, will!
